Hello!!
I am a child
I am a special gift 😊
I am supernatural and my mind is paradise.
Permit me to take you on a little journey to give you an idea on how my mind works.
Are you ready??
Come on let's go!
My mind is paradise as I had earlier mentioned, it works in a uniquely creative way. Do you know that for the first six years of my stay on earth, my brain acts like a sponge?? Yes you read that right, my brain acts like a sponge as it's effortlessly and constantly soaking up huge amount of information from my environment. This is what Maria Montessori referred to as the absorbent mind.
The way I relate with my environment is completely different from the way you adults relate with your environment, I absorb it. I don't just remember the things I see or hear, it forms part of my soul. The development that occurs in the first six years of my life are very important, as 85% of my core brain structure develops by the time I am five years old and I would have to build on this core foundation for the rest of my life. So please be careful of the information you feed to me during this period.
At birth, the average baby’s brain is about a quarter of the size of the average adult brain. Incredibly, it doubles in size in the first year. It keeps growing to about 80% of adult size by age 3 and 90% – nearly full grown – by age 5. The brain is the command center of the human body. A newborn baby has all of the brain cells (neurons) they’ll have for the rest of their life, but it’s the connections between these cells that really make the brain work. Brain connections enable people to move, think, communicate and do just about everything. Brain development builds on itself, as connections eventually link with each other in more complex ways. The early years are the best opportunity for a child’s brain to develop the connections they need to be healthy, capable, successful adults. The connections needed for many important, higher-level abilities like motivation, self-regulation, problem solving and communication are formed in these early years – or not formed. My daily experiences determine which brain connections develop and which will last for a lifetime.
Understanding how my mind works is not as complex as you think it is, here are some few tips to understanding my mind, improving our relationship and helping me grow into an amazing adult;
1. When I speak, listen to me without interrupting me as I might still be learning how to speak or I can't express myself properly yet.
2. Give me your undivided attention and always look me in the eye when talking or listening to me as you will be able to tell what I want or how I feel.
3. Think like me; when having a conversation with me, try not to let your adulthood take control. Don't think or speak like an adult, come down to my level because if you do not, it'll be frustrating for both of us to communicate.
4. Don't dodge any of the questions I ask, always answer them. I ask out of curiosity and because I trust you to give me an answer.
5. Pay attention to my imagination; help me become a better person by exposing me to fun and innovative things. Create the right environment for me to feed off and feed me the right kind of information as I have an absorbent mind.
6. Focus on my creations; I am creative and my artwork always expresses/represent my feelings.
7. Connect with me physically, verbally, spiritually and emotionally; become my favourite person, best friend, mentor and protector.
Let me stop here, I wish I could go on but I had promised to take you on a short journey not a long one but they're several children psychologist around the world that can help you understand more about my mind and brain development. I'm glad I've been able to give you a little insight about how my mind works and how you can understand me better. Cheers to a better relationship between us beloved parents and guardian.
I love you!
